Revolut – New mobile plans challenge the carriers

Revolut has announced the launch of its mobile plans, aiming to compete with traditional carriers.

Global fintech company Revolut has announced its intention to enter the telecommunications market by launching its own mobile plans, known as Revolut Mobile Plans. The goal is to challenge established operators, whom the company criticizes for a lack of transparency, hidden fees, and an outdated customer experience. The new monthly plans will offer users unlimited calls, texts, and data within their home country.

They will also include an EU roaming data package (the German plan is set to include 40GB) and a local phone number, all without fixed-term contracts. Customers will be able to keep their existing phone number and easily port it over, or choose a new number directly from Revolut. Activating a plan is expected to take just a few minutes.

The service will first launch later this year in the United Kingdom and Germany, with other markets to follow. Users can already sign up for a waiting list to get priority access and an introductory monthly price of €12.50. Revolut will not build its own infrastructure but will operate as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), leasing capacity from existing market players.

The names of the partner operators have not yet been specified but will be disclosed later. This move follows the successful launch of Revolut’s global eSIM service in 2024, which has become its most popular non-banking product with millions of data plans activated in over 100 locations. The launch of mobile plans is another step in the company’s strategy to diversify its products beyond purely financial services.

Plan management will be fully integrated into the existing app, offering customers simple tracking and control. Users will also be able to pay for their plan with loyalty points from the RevPoints program. The availability of the service for other markets, including United States or Canada, has not yet been announced.
