Croatia has long been a cherished destination for Central European tourists, many of whom make the scenic drive to the sun-drenched Adriatic coast.
Nestled between Croatia’s largest lake, Lake Vrana, and the shimmering sea, the village of Pakoštane is home to a truly unique resort called Pine Beach – a place that redefines the concept of a seaside holiday.
First impressions: A village in a forest
The resort’s philosophy is immediately apparent upon arrival: this is a retreat designed in harmony with nature. Instead of imposing concrete buildings, you are greeted by a sprawling pine forest, where small, individual cottages are thoughtfully scattered among the ancient trees.
The air is thick with the scent of pine and salt. A profound emphasis on ecological and sustainable solutions is evident everywhere; most structures are built from natural wood with traditional thatched roofs, creating an atmosphere that feels both rustic and deeply intentional.
Accommodation: From rustic adventure to modern comfort
Pine Beach offers two distinct accommodation experiences. For those seeking an adventurous, close-to-nature feel, the traditional thatched-roof bungalows provide a charmingly rustic stay.
While basic in amenities, they offer an authentic connection to the surrounding environment, with modern, shared sanitation facilities conveniently located throughout the resort.
For those seeking elevated comfort, the resort presents a modern solution. Modern mobile homes blend seamlessly into the surrounding pine forest. These are far from standard units; they are unique wooden structures comparable to a 3 or 4-star apartment.
Each home features two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and a spacious living area with a well-equipped kitchen. We chose this option and our week-long stay was nothing short of exceptional. The interior was both well-appointed and cleverly designed.
The true centerpiece, however, was the expansive wooden terrace. It served as our private outdoor living room, complete with privacy curtains, comfortable deck chairs, and a full dining area. To ensure total comfort, each unit is also equipped with air conditioning and its own reliable Wi-Fi network.
The experience: Active days and relaxed evenings
Dining is a lively, communal affair in the central hall, where a generous “all-inclusive light” package is served buffet-style. The selection is impressively varied, featuring everything from fresh seafood and grilled meats to vegetarian dishes, complemented by a wide array of salads, fruits, desserts, and local Croatian wine and beer on tap.
Pine Beach is unapologetically geared towards an active, youthful, and young-at-heart clientele. The resort is a vibrant hub of activity, offering a vast array of sports facilities and water-based adventures – from sailing and windsurfing to a treetop adventure park.
This energetic atmosphere makes it a popular destination for international youth summer camps. However, the resort is also wonderfully suited for families. A beautifully maintained, shallow sandy bay provides a safe and fun environment for children, while other, more secluded rocky terraces offer quiet spots for sunbathing and relaxation.
Final verdict
Pine Beach Resort offers an extraordinary concept for a seaside holiday – something we had never experienced before. The feeling of living in a well-organized, clean, and safe nature camp, just steps from the pristine Adriatic Sea, is both unique and deeply refreshing.
It’s a place that successfully marries the adventure of camping with the comforts of a modern resort. We found it to be a fantastic place to disconnect and relax, and we highly recommend it to active individuals, families, and anyone looking to experience a truly unusual and memorable Croatian vacation.
